ELIGIBILITY – Please note that applicants must meet ALL eligibility requirements to receive an application. Applications will only be sent after proof and confirmation of eligibility.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

1.      Must be an American citizen

2.      Must have been incarcerated for more than ONE YEAR in TDCJ, FMC Carswell or FCI Fort Worth, FCI Seagoville.

3.      Must be released from institution for AT LEAST SIX MONTHS, and established in a local church.

4.      MUST NOT be released for MORE THAN TEN YEARS

5.      Must possess a High School Diploma or GED

6.       Must be an ex-offender. Felony arsonists, felony sexual offenders, habitual violent offenders and felony offenders under psychiatric care or taking anti-psychotic medication are NOT ELIGIBLE for the scholarship program.

7.      Must attend an accredited school or college within one of the approved counties, listed below.

8.      Must be a resident of one of the following counties: Bell, Bosque, Brown, Callahan, Coleman, Comanche, Coryell, Dallas, Eastland, Ellis, Erath, Falls, Hamilton, Hill, Hood, Freestone, Johnson, Judy, Limestone, McClennan, Mills, Navarro, Parker, Palo Pinto, Runnels, Stephens, Tarrant, Williams or Young.

9.      Must meet ALL school or university admission requirements.

10.  Must provide proof of passing the admissions placement test, if applying to school for first time.

11.  Must complete selected institute Financial Aid Form and apply for FAFSA, online. Provide proof of compliance with application.

 

 

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS - Applicant MUST submitted ALL supporting documents with application in order to remain eligible. Missing documents or incomplete applications will be discarded.

1.      Provide one page essay stating why you feel you should be chosen as a recipient of the scholarship. Also, advise on the difference receiving the scholarship will make in your life and your family.

2.      Provide 2-3 page essay stating, to the best of your ability, how you became involved in criminal activity and how your life has changed. In other words share your testimony with us.

3.      Provide one letter of support from Pastor or designee

4.      Provide one personal or business letter of support

5.      Provide photo – we appreciate putting a face with your application.

6.      Provide copy of High School, GED or transcript from college(s) previously attended

7.      Provide curriculum overview of your selected program

 

How to apply – To apply, contact the Tarrant County Restorative Justice Center at 817-921-4730 to request an application. Applications are available via FAX, email or through U.S. Postal mail service. Scholarships are competitive and only one to two are given each year. You will be contacted by a representative of the Scholarship Committee to schedule an interview should you selected as one of the top three candidates. Phone interviews will be conducted with selected candidates who live outside the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Additional Information:

The primary focus, and heart of our ministry, is to be a prisoner reentry service provider.

Therefore preference will be given to individuals who have released

within six months – one year. .
